Medicare and Veterans

Navigating Medicare for veterans can be confusing, but you don’t have to do it alone. We specialize in helping veterans understand how Medicare works with the benefits they’ve earned through their service, including VA Healthcare and TRICARE for Life or TRICARE Prime.

Do I need Medicare if I have VA health benefits?

VA health benefits are not the same as Medicare. VA coverage usually only works at VA facilities. If you enroll in Medicare, you can see doctors and hospitals outside the VA system. Having both can give you more choices and help prevent gaps in coverage.

Do I have to enroll in Medicare Part B if I have TRICARE?

Yes. If you have TRICARE for Life, you must enroll in Medicare Part B when you become eligible. If you do not enroll in Part B, you could lose your TRICARE coverage. Medicare pays first, and TRICARE for Life pays second.

How do Medicare and TRICARE for Life work together?

When you have both Medicare and TRICARE for Life, Medicare pays its share first. Then TRICARE for Life helps cover many of the remaining costs. In many cases, this means little to no out-of-pocket expenses for covered services.
