Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a covered heart attack or stroke?

Each policy defines covered events specifically, but in general a covered heart attack requires a physician's diagnosis supported by evidence such as EKG changes and elevated cardiac enzymes. A covered stroke typically requires confirmed neurological damage lasting longer than 24 hours, supported by imaging or clinical findings.

Mini-strokes (transient ischemic attacks, or TIAs) and angina are usually treated differently from a full heart attack or stroke and may or may not be covered depending on the plan.

How quickly will I receive the cash benefit after a diagnosis?

Once a completed claim is submitted along with the required physician documentation, most carriers pay the lump-sum benefit within a few weeks. Some carriers are faster than others, and timing can also depend on how quickly your medical records are released by your provider.

The benefit is paid directly to you in one lump sum — not in installments and not directly to a hospital or doctor.

Can I have this on top of Medicare or my other health insurance?

Yes. Heart attack and stroke insurance is supplemental coverage, which means it pays in addition to anything else you have — Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, employer coverage, or an ACA plan.

The benefit goes to you, not to your providers, so it doesn't reduce or interfere with what your primary insurance pays.

What if I've already had a heart attack or stroke — can I still get coverage?

It depends on the plan. Some plans require you to be free of heart attack or stroke history at the time of application. Others have a waiting period, modified benefits for a previous event, or cover one condition but not the other.

Underwriting and health questions vary by carrier. The easiest way to know what you qualify for is to walk through your history with a licensed agent.

How much does heart attack and stroke insurance cost?

Monthly premiums vary based on your age, your health, the benefit amount you choose, and the carrier. Many clients find these plans affordable for the level of protection they provide.

Because pricing is personalized, the most accurate way to see a real number is a quick coverage review. There's no cost or obligation to get a quote.
